R&A Projects
R&A collects, reports and analyses data for traffic engineers, transport planners, transport operators, and other data users.
We are committed to the delivery of quality survey information and consultancy advice for both public and private sector clients.
The following is a selection of our project experience. It provides a brief overview of our work and is always expanding.
Further information on these projects or additional reference projects can be provided upon request.
GC2018 Commonwealth Games Park and Ride Sites Occupancy Survey
Successfully implemented real-time 24-hour traffic monitoring systems at entrance/exit at 12 Park and Ride sites during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Also provided real-time count data on vehicle accessing the sites during the Games Time period between 04 and 15 April 2018. Tasks involved remote off-grid CCTV installation at the PnR sites, developed data-feed system to send to Amazon Web Services (AWS), and data was processed and displayed on Tableau. This monitoring tool provided near real-time information such as car parking usage to the GC2018 officers on duty.
Sydney Metro Station Traffic Surveys
These surveys involve vehicle classification and turning movement counts across 19 intersections at four (4) Sydney Metro Stations that are currently being built. Video capture units were used to record the movements of vehicles and pedestrians. In addition, queue lengths were measured on all intersection approaches. The survey data are being used to understand the existing traffic conditions before the opening of the stations (2018) as they will be compared against the post-opening conditions (2019-2020). These works are undertaken in response to Sydney Metro NorthWest infrastructure approval and to satisfy the environmental impact statement planning conditions.
Turramurra Intersection Counts and Travel Time Surveys
Using our video capture units we surveyed 13 sites in Turramurra Town Centre over three days, between Thursday and Saturday. All turning movements were recorded in 15-minute periods and the count was classified into cars, trucks, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. We also collected queue and delay data at each approach at the intersections. Travel time survey consisted of three (3) key routes were conducted using “floating car” technology, collected during selected times over the same three-day period. Detailed GPS data provided informative platooning and congestion source information. The survey was successfully delivered to the client on time and within budget. The survey data were used to support network traffic modelling using Aimsun software.
Townsville CBD Intersection Counts and Journey Time Survey
This survey involved 57 intersection vehicle classification turning movement counts around the Townsville CBD. Video capture units were used to record the vehicle movements. In addition, queue lengths were measured at critical intersection approaches. Travel time surveys were carried out along five (5) key routes. GPS equipment was use to record and present the travel time data. Detailed GPS data provided informative platooning and congestion source information. All surveys were done on one-single day, and successfully delivered on time and within budget. The survey data were used to support network traffic modelling in Townsville CBD.
South Coast Region 2019/2020 Traffic Count Program: Rural Parts 1A & 1B
We have successfully completed a consecutive two-week mid-block counts across a series of rural roads on the South Coast Region. The survey involved using over 80 MetroCount loggers on 46 road sections. Classified vehicle volumes and speed were recorded.
Townsville Screenline and Special Generator Counts
We completed a series of screenline and special generator counts across the Townsville City on time and within budget. The survey involves using 260 MetroCount loggers on 58 roads (forming 12 screenlines) and 20 special generators (recording on all access/egress points). Classified vehicle volumes and speed were recorded, and reports were produced for all counts.
North Sydney CBD Transport Masterplan
This survey involved 12 intersection vehicle classification turning movement counts in the North Sydney CBD. Video capture units were used to record the vehicle movements. Travel time surveys were carried out along three (3) key routes. GPS equipment was use to record and present the travel time data. Detailed GPS data provided informative platooning and congestion source information. All surveys were done on one-single day, and successfully delivered on time and within budget. The survey data were used to support the North Sydney CBD Transport Masterplan network traffic modelling.
Sydney Intersection and Pedestrian Counts
Classified turning movement counts were undertaken at nine intersections using our video capture units. The classified counts included cars, trucks, buses, cyclists and pedestrians. In addition, pedestrian movements on intersection approaches were recorded, categorised into legal and illegal crossings. Data was collected for seven days over a two-week period, between 0900 and 2200, Monday through to Sunday. The survey was successfully delivered to the client on time and within budget, and the information was used for network planning and pedestrian study.
Carpark Utilisation Surveys at Bishop St, Kelvin Grove
The purpose of the survey is to identify parking utilisation during peak period for a proposed commercial development. The scope involves recording 7-day video footages at various accesses to determine car vehicle parking utilisation. The total in/out vehicles were reported in 15-min interval to provide percentage of utilisation in the carpark throughout a 7-day period.
2018/19 Traffic Count Program – Northern District
We have successfully completed a consecutive three-week mid-block counts across the Townsville City. The survey involved using 254 MetroCount loggers concurrently on over 100 road sections. Classified vehicle volumes and speed were recorded and Excel reports were produced for all counts.
